ABOUT LRC

Lansing Rowing Club is a 501(c)(7) charitable organization serving the greater Lansing area and surrounding central Michigan communities. The mission of the Lansing Rowing Club is to provide and promote a safe, affordable, and physically rewarding rowing experience for residents of Lansing and the surrounding area. We are working towards establishing ourselves as one of the premiere community rowing clubs in the Midwest. We are mainly a sculling rowing club with a wide variety of fleet sculling boats to ensure that there is a boat for your size and skill level.

OUR HISTORY

In the autumn of 1991, the rowing committee members built the original main section of our boathouse in the Grand River Park. Our boathouse is dedicated to one of our founding members, Bob Ryden, who sadly passed away one year after our building was built. By 1994, the Lansing Rowing Club outgrew the original building and expanded! Today, the Bob Ryden Boathouse houses both club and individually owned boats and oars. We have grown so much from our early days to present, always united together for our love of the sport and our community.

Our Community

Our club is more than just a place to row; it becomes a second family where lifelong friendships are forged, personal growth is nurtured, and a shared passion for rowing creates unbreakable bonds. From group rows to social coffee hour at the local shop, we find connection with each other. We have had rowers from Australia, England, Turkey, Germany and Poland join our club! Once you have become a club member, you are part of the family.

Competitive Edge

Our coaching helps take rowers to the next level and feel confident to achieve regatta competitions. When you join, you become part of this proud tradition and have the opportunity to make your mark in the rowing world. We have participated in various regattas throughout Michigan while focusing mainly on the Head of the Grand. A few LRC rowers have proudly participated in the Head of the Charles. Anything is possible when you feel encouraged and supported.

Personal Growth

We believe that rowing is more than just a sport — it’s a catalyst for personal growth and development. Through the challenges and triumphs experienced on the water, our members develop not only as athletes but as individuals. There is a sense of calmness found while rowing the Grand River. The stress of the world simply fade away. Rowing is positive for the body and mind.
